Playing Record

I won the 10 & Under AEGON Midlands Regional Winter Leader-board for 2010/11. This was based on my top 6 results in regional/national tournaments, I achieved the second  highest score in the country.

I was runner up on the 12  & Under AEGON Midlands Regional Winter Leader-board for 2011/12. As I am only 11 I still have another 12 months competing in this age group and therefore look to improve on this result.

I was ranked number 11 nationally for 11 year olds over the 2011/12 winter season and because of this I have qualified to attend the Lawn Tennis National Talent ID Programme in Spring 2012.

As of April 2012 I was ranked number 34 nationally at the 12 & under level.

As of April 2012 I am number 1 ranked player in Herefordshire & Worcestershire at both 12 & under and 14 & under age group. My sister Ruth Horsburgh has also topped the county rankings in these age groups.

My cord to date in the annual Herefordshire & Worcestershire County Closed Championships is :

Year County Singles                   County Doubles

2010 10 & Under RUNNER UP 10 & Under WINNER

County and Club Representation
I have played for Herefordshire & Worcestershire every year at the relevant age group since 2008. In 2010, I played at number 1 for the Herefordshire & Worcestershire team that won through to the play off for the top 6 counties at the National Finals at 10 & under level. I made my debut for the Ladies A team of Worcester Lawn Tennis Club aged ten.

Schools Tennis

I won Herefordshire & Worcestershire County 15 & under Schools Doubles Competition (with my sister, Ruth Horsburgh) in 2011, playing for RGS Worcester.

‘I want to encourage other girls to play tennis – so my sister and I have helped set up a ‘tennis club’ at school, so hopefully others can enjoy playing the sport’. Kate Horsburgh

Competition plans for next 6 months and Future Aims
My competition plans for the next 6 months include representing Herefordshire & Worcestershire in the national County Cup Competitions at both 12 & under, and 14 & under events to be held at Wrexham and Lincoln. I am also targeting the 12 & under National Championships at Bournemouth in August, followed by the 12 & under County Closed titles later that month. I will also be trying to help RGS Worcester progress in the AEGON Schools Tennis Competition.

‘I love competing in tournaments. I’ve known some of the girls I’m competing against for several years, and there can be a lot of rivalry as we all want to win. But I have made some good friends through tennis.’ Kate Horsburgh

‘I want to continue to move up the national rankings, and to test myself against the best players in the country.’ Kate Horsburgh

Kate said of her support from Sport Worcester ‘My aim is to become the best tennis player I can be. So I need to continue to do a lot of training and play in the right standard of competition. Travelling most weeks in the summer to competitions all over the country is expensive. I really appreciate the financial support that I have received from Sport Worcester’.
